On This Day/The Clash release White Riot

On this day in 1977, The Clash released their first single, White Riot. The single was released through CBS Recordings.  They did not allow the band’s debut album or single to be released in the U.S. until 1979.  The song has been covered by CBGB alum’s Camper van Beethoven and Sham 69.  Check out The Clash perform their classic hit.

On This Day/Sex Pistols Release The Great Rock ‘n Roll Swindle

On this day in 1979, The Sex Pistols released their third record The Great Rock ‘N Roll Swindle. The record was a soundtrack for the movie, The Great Rock ‘N Roll Swindle. The record includes songs from other artists such as Chuck Berry and Pete Townshend.  During the time of recording, Johnny Rotten was on the outs with The Sex Pistols, so they used his voice from earlier demo tracks to include on the record.

On This Day/The Clash first U.S. Tour

On this day in in 1979, The Clash opened its first U.S. tour in New York City.  The tour supported the band’s second album, Give ‘Em Enough Rope.  Their third album, London Calling, was released in December 1979, this album would give the band much recognition in the United States.  Check out The Clash performing English Civil War.
