CBGB Crashes MAGIC, Proving Rock Will Never Die New York, New York (July, 2001) CBGB announced publicly it's new expansion into fashion nearly a year ago. Since this announcement, the famous rock 'n roll club has grown into a lucrative apparel business. In response to increased demand for their product, CBGB will be participating in the August 2001 MAGIC Show. This is CBGB's first time at MAGIC. CBGB launched their clothing line in August 2000 in response to a growing online demand for their specialty tees. Sales for logo tees had been strong since the launch of the CBGB website in 1996, but when CBGB partnered with manufacturers like One Clothing to produce an extensive catalog of fashion forward logo inspired apparel, sales took off. The figures: CBGB.com receives an average of 2000 visitors per day, translating into 60,000 visitors per month. 50 % of these viewers visit the sales section and CBGB's consumer Internet sales averages over $2,000 per month. CBGB is looking to expand sales at the retail level, where sales double online sales. The CBGB line is currently sold at specialty chain stores like Hot Topic and Newbury Comics. CBGB will begin actively promoting the line after MAGIC. Currently, every star that plays at CBGB receives a logo tee that they often wear to publicized events. Stars and bands like Blues Traveler and Green Day have already been photographed sporting a tee from the line, promotion that has increased online sales. Hilly and the CBGB designers are currently planning additions to the line to preview during the February 2002 MAGIC show. The additions will include outerwear, bottoms and innerwear for men and women. CBGB opened in 1973 and became a punk mecca in the mid-seventies--helping to launch bands like Television, the Ramones, Blondie, Police Talking Heads and Patti Smith. The club has also hosted blockbuster acts such as Smashing Pumpkins, Guns and Roses, Pearl Jam and most recently, Bush, Green Day and Blues Traveler. Hilly Kristal, founder of CBGB and President of CBGB Fashions Ltd. regularly appears as a rock expert in countless articles, radio and television interviews, documentaries and books including, CNN, VH1, MTV and the "Blondie" and "Talking Heads" biographies, NPR and various local radio stations. CBGB will be exhibiting at Booth #SE80728 in a corner booth between the Edge and Outer Limits shows. |
