The Dictators were Andy Shernoff, Ross “The Boss” Friedman, Scott Kempner, Stu Boy King, and Handsome Dick Manitoba. They signed with Epic Records and in 1975, their debut album The Dictators Go Girl Crazy was released. After seeing slow sales, the band left Epic and joined Asylum to release their second album. The Dictator’s final album released was Baby, Let’s Twist. This was the first album that featured Manitoba as vocalist on every song. The 1976 Richard Godlis photo of Handsome Dick and his firend Jodi, is a CBGB classic. Today, Dick can be heard on Sirius Radio and has a bar on the Lower East Side.
