Cro-Mags

The Cro-Mags originated from New York City and included Harley Frances Flangan, Axe Assassin Parris Mitchell Mayhew, Navy Jet, John Joseph “Bloodclot” McGeown, and Mackie Jayson. They dominated the ‘80’s NYC hardcore scene frequently playing at CBGB. Their debut album, The Age of Quarrel, came out in 1986. While Cro-Mag performances were intense, loud, and explosive, the band were into vegetarianism, religion, and politics. This tension between the Cro-Mags personal beliefs and punk’s expected persona caused the band to break up. The CD/DVD The Final Quarrel – Live at CBGB 2001 captures a reenergized band. Lead singer, John Josephs, wrote the memoir, An Evolution of a Cro-Magnon, in 2009. In 2010 he is releasing a vegetarian cook up Meat is for Pussies.
