On This Date/ Kent State

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

On this date in 1970, four Kent State students are killed and eleven students are wounded by National Guard troops at a campus demonstration protesting the escalation of the Vietnam War. Neil Young is inspired to write Ohio by this event, which became a hit for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.  Many Ohio bands came to CBGB to play on May 4 to honor those Kent State students.
