On This Day in 2004, Guitar Wolf played a sold out show. This Japanese punk power trio formed in 1987 in Nagasaki Japan. Their music influence cross between garage rock, rockabilly and the Ramones. The band has numerous studio albums, singles and have appeared two science fiction/ horror films. In 2005, Bass Wolf, the band’s bassist and founding member died of a heart attack at age 38. U.G., has since replaced him and Guitar Wolf continues on with Seiji and Toro.

On this day in 1993, The Lyres, from Boston played a sold out show at CB’s. The Lyres were founded in 1979 BY Jeff “Monoman” Conolly. During the mid 1990′s the band took time off; however, during the past two years have been gigging regularly with Jeff Conolly, the only original member. Friday, February 26th, 2010On this day in 1932, Johnny Cash was born in Arkansas. This influential singer songwriter, author, actor and biblical scholar started his career in 1957, with his first recording to his final recordings in 2003. In 1992, Cash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You can read about his incredible legacy here.
Happy Birthday Doug Yule
Thursday, February 25th, 2010Doug Yule turns 63 today. He is most famous for his years as bassist in The Velvet Underground during the years 1968 – 1973. He replaced John Cale. Besides playing bass for the band, Yule played the organ and eventually did vocals, he is most known for the famous Velvet Underground song, Candy Says. Once Doug Yule left the band in 1973, the band name Velvet Underground, was retired. In December 2009, Doug Yule, Lou Reed, and Maureen Tucker reunited to celebrate the release of The Velvet Underground – New York Art, the book contained photographs of their first performances in NYC, it was a sold out event.
